World's Longest Yardsale Hwy 127

It was a hairy start that first day when we ran into lots of rain and wind and lightning just before we got to Chattanooga, Tennessee, on Wednesday. We had to pull over along with lots of other travelers and wait it out.

Kelly, Brian, Ashley, Katrina, Tammie, and Little Wilder and me..

Traveling those curvy mountain roads. Lots of road signs.

We passed the Fruit of the Loom Factory that morning. . .

We also passed the UFO house. . . Near Signal Mountain, Tennessee

Tomatoes were for sale, too . .
North of Chattanooga we stopped at a wonderful Fire Station Community Center building to eat their delicious salad luncheons the first day and so did a lot of other hungry shoppers. We got there at 11:45 before the crowd joined in. They had lots of nice spaces with lots of good stuff to look at and up-close handicap parking. We were greeted by joyful ladies happy to serve us. It's nice to be appreciated.

We shopped and shopped and shopped. . .

Traveling companions

Shopping

Colorful metal art ?

Tool handles anyone?

A series of Barn Sale signs caught our attention. We got to the top of the hill and went into the barn and bought a child's double rocker. It was called a "Chicken Ranch" and there were chickens all over the place.

Dunlap, Tennessee. We bought Red and White 1950's table and chairs plus 4 1950's sparkling chairs.

Brian Santa and free toys for Wilder. We had a flat tire on the trailer in Dunlap, Tennessee after these photos were taken.

One of our favorite stops was the FRONT PORCH RESTAURANT
Tammie got lots of orders on her phone. Katrina bought hundreds of frames to start a new project.

Wilder entertains again.

Wolf Creek Dam

Wolf Creek

Pasture with booths and tents.

A big stop at the Expo Center in Central Kentucky. We did some shopping.

Eating at Cracker Barrell. Our farewell breakfast. Brian had to go home.

Time to look at the map and hit the road

Weenie Wagon. . . That's a first!!!!!

Huge farm in Kentucky
As we left Lexington Kentucky on Sunday morning we were impressed with the beautiful scenery and ranches and horse farms in the distance. There were several. Our trip had been very fruitful and we returned home with a trailer bursting full of vintage finds for our antique store and for our personal use. We have a certain procedure when we shop this yardsale. We stop anywhere. We avoid the high priced dealers and go for the bargains. You can find them if you look hard enough and stay COOL!!!

Thursday - Sunday

This year Ashley took along
her Mother and Sister and Nephew
along with her friends who are attending the
Highway 127 Corridor World's
Longest Yard Sale.
They took two vans and two trailers this time.
We were so excited at the amount of things
to see and do we forgot to take as many pictures as last year but we sure had a
good time.

Ashley's Van and Trailer, and Mom's Van View

Ashley drove for a while but
the GPS took us to a cemetery instead.
View on the way in Alabama

We all got a nice breakfast at Red Robin.....mmmmm....good... Sweet Wilder, too.
Later Kelly made us Fresh Peach Daiquiris.

Lots of traffic we ran into along the way. High prices and bargains, too.

We purchased our baby planters and vintage greeting cards and doilies. There was some mud along the way as you can see in the photo on the right.

Davidson Space Center in Alabama.

Wonderful shopping
here. Scenic, too. Miss Judy bought lots of chickens.

We all took turns with Wilder. This is
Aunt Ashley's turn.

Lots of venders but spaces for rent, too.

This is a Woody Woodpecker
Blow Mold that is used for outdoor displays that light up.
We like to shop for Blow Molds but its unusual when you find a Woody
Woodpecker.
We loaded it up and took it home.
Later on we found a Santa
Blow Mold and 3 Reindeer
and also a Witch, a Ghost and Some Pumpkins that we also bought.

This was a great place to stop in Tennessee. We found lots of good stuff.
Ashley modeled her original New Orleans Costume Parade Cape. She later sold it to a happy customer in her store. Moonlight Antiques in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
Salt and Pepper
shakers,
pictures, and books, and vintage tins.

Some people bring their dogs along. We just brought Wilder.

Ashley on right and her sisters, searching for a good restaurant. The rest of us.
Suzanne Tammie and Ashley
loading up to go home after
buying quilt at this house.

Tammie and Katrina on the way to the little
girl's room. We have the buddy system.
Beware of the free restroom in Kentucky that has the outside lock instead of the
inside lock. We used the buddy system and stood outside for each other for
sure.

Good little traveler on his way home.

Wednesday, August 6, 2008:
We got
started on our trip to the 127 Corridor World’s
Longest Yard Sale at about 4:30 p.m., CST and
stopped to have dinner in Brinkley, Arkansas, which is just west of Memphis,
Tennessee.

We were greeted at the off-ramp by a jack-knifed trailer on the
move. That just reminded us of how we needed to be careful with our own
trailer that we are towing.
We
ate at the Old
Sawmill Cafe.
We cannot say that we recommend it, but the service was nice. The food was
lacking.

We drove through the night to our first stop in Crossville, Tennessee.

Our
trailer cut down our gas mileage by 40 percent, so we had to stop for gas a lot
more than we first thought. This
means our expenses will be higher.

We got to the LaQuinta
Motel in Crossville at about
2:30 a.m., CST. The four of us were exhausted, but we liked the motel
room. It was a little small and the price was high, but it was convenient
from the 40 Interstate and right on the yard sale route. All the hotels
are at elevated rates due to the popularity of the yard sale.
Thursday,
August 7, 2008:
Thursday morning was not an early start for us, but the sales were going strong
when we arrived. The town of Crossville was filled with clusters of
vendors of every type.

Our first stop brought us to one of our most exotic
finds, a carved she-man that gave us a chuckle.

“K” bought some melted
plastic popcorn Christmas items and a plant stand that she was very proud of and
“A” bought an AnnaLee Santa.

Ashley found a Santa.
“K” found another melted plastic popcorn item for Easter.

We had lunch at CD's Steak and Smokehouse in
Crossville. That has been our
best meal so far. We enjoyed terrific service, fresh ingredients and a
nice bathroom. We would recommend any of their salads and the sweet potato
fries.

”T” found an Amber pitcher to add to the her collection. She got a
bargain at $5.
”T” also found one of our most unusual items for sale - a novelty giant
thong underwear that is supposed to amuse passers-by on your clothesline.

We stayed in the Best Western in Albany, Kentucky. Ask for the 1st floor because there are no elevators.
Drove
10 mi to Wisdom Dock that was scary and weird but a nice restaurant kind of
deserted on the Lake.
Nice Service and reasonable prices.
Friday,
August 8, 2008:

We
got a pitcher and some colorful pennants in Kentucky.'
Beautiful Dam we drove over.

”S” got a cool rug and a sweet deal.

THE GLIDERS WERE GREAT BUT THE
DEALERS WANTED TOO MUCH!!!!

"Ashley" is looking good and
found a treasure.
We have September weather that is wonderful.
We can't wait till next year to
come again.
On
to the next town on our agenda. More treasures to come.

Jamestown, Kentucky

We
ate at Jamestown Café. Good service, reasonable prices, lots of food and we ate
late at 4 p.m..
We had leftovers in the motel which was a Best Western motel in
Lawrenceburg.
with the hardest beds.
It was half the price but did not like the beds.

The buffet complimentary breakfast was good but employees were inattentive.
Saturday, August 9, 2008:
We are having a hard time packing any more into the trailer and van. We had to bribe some men to rearrange our trailer today for the Cold Buds we had in our cooler.

One
full trailer.
They
were happy to oblige but one was afraid he would end up in Arkansas if he
wasn’t careful. He felt trapped
in the trailer from rearranging it so tight.

Santa and turkey enamel platter that "Ashley" bought in KY.
"S" found some lights that she looks like she just loves.
I bought a Morrocan man lanp and a giant sign from Arlene at a huge pavilion in KY.
"K"
bought a nice antique chifferobe.

Great huge place.

Look
at all the dealers and cars.
The 127 Corridor World's Longest Yard Sale Delivers.
"T" had bought a china cabinet that was hard to fit
in.
We are coming home late on Sunday night.
We are having a wonderful time, still. No problems and its still fun, fun, fun.
"Ashley" has bought lots of good merchandise for Moonlight Antiques in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Home folks are excited about seeing what comes home.

We
were invited to go to the drag races but we had buying on our minds, instead so
we turned down the invitation.
We have a cooler full of water, sodas, chips, cheese and crackers, and peanuts. We won’t get too hungry looking for a restaurant.
Stayed at Oxford, Ohio the last night.
All the girls got home safe and sound very late Monday morning in the wee hours. They ate dinner in Cincinnati the night before at Boston Market and liked it a lot.
Next year they want a better and easier route home so it won't be so long.
They were totally exhausted from the trip because the booths stayed open into the evening hours all over the 127 Yard Sale. They hated to miss anything so they just kept shopping and looking late each day.
By the time it was over they were too tired to send any pictures home and just crashed at the motel and slept.
